Joseph Brot: One sexy bakery

How the hell does he do it!? Is it the perfect jaw line and sweet dimples of the interior design with it’s designer chairs and floor to roof windows? Is it the ‘sexy bakery with long, curvaceous legs’ brand marketing seeping into my subconscious? Is it the line of people out the door on Saturday and Sunday mornings? It’s just bread for God’s sake!

WARNING: walking into this place will scramble your decision-making process as soon as you walk in the door. In a city stuffed with bakeries, who would have thought you could open another one and be as successful as Joseph Brot has been. And while I hate to admit it, I love coming to this overpriced babe of a bakery for breakfast. The breakfast selection is original. We’d highly recommend The Healthy breakfast that is featuring a slice of Vollkorn-Urlaib bread garnished with salmon, avocado cream, poached eggs, tomatoes and cottage cheese plus a chia vanilla granola pudding; or the Queen Elizabeth’s Hangover Breakfast concoction of Chili-Käsekrainer, scrambled eggs, potatoes, grilled tomato and a mini burger. But what gets you here is the quality of the products on offer.

This bakery seriously boasts some of the best bread in the city. And, don’t get us started on their Streuselkuchen – I feel like I’ve just been raped paying the exorbitant price for it, but once it’s on the fork and into my mouth I’m screaming – ‘Do it again!’ Same goes for most of the pastries in their cabinet. In addition to the bakery goods, many of the other products are made in-house, all with bio ingredients eg. Joseph’s selection of muesli, the jams and the juices.

A range of classic Viennese breakfasts, omelettes, Eggs Benedikt, and sweet alternatives are also on offer.

The staff are charming and will greet you with a smile every time (and not only if you’re a regular, like we are), and the baristas know how to make coffee. The kind that leaves you with a frothy smile. The shuffling of chairs can forever be heard as the place echoes and the concrete floor will make you want to slip on a pair of tap shoes and start dancing. On the weekends you might happend to find a throng of people waiting in line for a table, but don’t be discouraged, no wait here will take longer than 10 minutes.
