@Dontbeafredbaby is Austria’s most famous towel. With the face of the infamous Austrian musician Austrofred on it, this towel has been taking over our Instagram feeds with his signature yellow and turquoise blue vibes, along with his flavour of weird and wonky humour. 1. What is your name and where are you from originally?
I am a towel from Austria (Linz and Vienna) and my Instagram is @dontbeafredbaby – in reference to the Austrian Artist Austrofred.

2. Describe your style in 9 words, or less.
Sex. Yellow. Austrian. Bananas. Wet. Ginglish. Travel. Peace. Love.
3. What equipment do you use to create your work?
I just need myself (the towel), sometimes a selfie stick and my iPhone 6s 😉 And I also need the help and love of the #dontbeafredbaby community (yes, there is a cult following) to share their pictures and art on my Instagram wall, as well.

4. Name three of your favourite locations to work?
New York City, the solarium and the toilet.
5. Tell us about your art, your motifs and subjects.
My art is very simple. It shows the life of an average Austrian towel, from getting up in the morning, going to work and traveling. I wanna spread the love all over the world and make people smile.

6. How did this all start?
Last year, I decided to get an Instagram account. Meanwhile, I also have a Facebook and Tinder profile (I’m looking for the love of my life). For me, Austrofred is one of the funniest guys in Austria. I like his shows, his books and his acting style. At the beginning, I started posting in German trying to use Austrofred’s dialect, but when I saw that people from all over the world started to follow me, I changed to English… or Ginglish ;D

7. What is the wildest experience you ever had producing your art?
I think it was the photo shooting I did in a dentist’s chair last year (As you know, I don’t really like dentists)

8. Did Instagram change how you see the world?
Before Instagram, I never saw so many bananas in my entire life.

10. What’s your favourite place in Vienna?
I really like the Manner shop.
11. What does Vienna mean to you and how has it influenced your work?
In Vienna, there are many open-minded, great and crazy people. And there is also Conchita – I love Conchita! <3

The Austrofred towel’s favourite TV shows are “Breaking Fred“ and “The Walking Fred.“ At the moment the towel is listening to “Banana Brain“ from Die Antwoord, and he also has a secret tattoo on his left butt cheek. 😉
