#passthesenf: Lukas Pellmann & 5 photographs of his mysterious Vienna

1. Where are you from originally?
Essen, Germany

2. How did you end up in Vienna?
My family decided to move from the shabby german Ruhr district to scenic Vienna in 1990. It’s been a culture shock for me and I still miss the industrial ruins and the grey streets of the houses where I grew up.

3. Describe your photography style in 9 words or less.
Architecture, mirror play, and of course, pictures that are related to my interactive Viennese detective stories and readings – see more about Lukas’ detective stories ‘Haengende Spitze’ and ‘Mord im Zweiten’ at www.lukaspellmann.at

4. What do you photograph with?
Phone: Samsung S5 mini
Camera: Sony Alpha 230

5. How do you retouch/edit your photos?
When I started with Instagram two years ago, I mostly used one of the Instagram filters like Ludwig or Valencia. But after some months, I’ve stopped with that. Since then, I’ve been using Instagram tools for smaller changes in contrast or brightness. Besides that, I’m using Snapseed for (eg.) grabbing car number plates.

6. Name three of your favourite locations and/or subjects to shoot in Vienna.
The Donaukanal (even during hot summer days there are lots of possibilities for some great mirror play!), 1st district (been there a million times but still spotting new points of view), and the area of Schöpfwerk and Kabelwerk in the 12th district (nice contrast between modern and “old” architecture out of the 1970s, and a good example of a nice photo location in the suburbs of Vienna)

7. Tell us in 3 sentences max how Instagram changed how you see the world.
Just one word: Squared

8. Who’s your favourite Instagram artist you’re currently following?
I am a big fan of @hansegang – great pictures out of one of my favourite places in the world (Hamburg, northern Germany). Besides that, there are a lot of great Viennese Instagrammers. All of them offer a special insight into this wonderful city (and beyond), e.g. @paeders, @fabolus_vienna, @tzuio, @claudia_del_mar, @dada0ne, @monday82

9. What’s your favourite place in Vienna?
Café Else. It’s a great place for having a cup of coffee, watching people and working on my detective stories.

11. What does Vienna mean to you?
Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities in the entire world and it’s just great to live in this wonderful place. It offers the perfect possibilities to live and work – and it of course offers also a lot of characters, buildings and stories, that always inspire me.

12. Anything else you want to add?
Of course it’s nice to have many followers on Instagram, but what I appreciate most is getting to know each other in real life – so join the community and become part of Instameets and Instawalks! 🙂
